Stand-up paddle surfing is the latest watersport to hit the West Country. It is a traditional Hawaiian style of surfing and Ainsworth has created a range of paddles especially for the sport.
Discovery Surf School in South Devon (www.discoverysurf.com) runs lessons in stand-up paddle surfing and has equipment for hire. Martin from Discovery Surf says: “It’s super fun, great exercise and extremely challenging as you learn. A great form of cross training; improves stamina and increases muscle strength in upper body, torso and legs. It especially works your legs as you are constantly trying to balance as you stand.”
The Ainsworth Stand Up Surfing paddle range is perfect for this new sport, with powerful, teardrop blades, and long shafts to pick up the surf quickly. Prices start from £39.50 for the nylon NC103, the perfect beginners' paddle. For improvers and more advanced paddlers, choose between the glassfibre CG103 or the lightweight, top of the range CC103 with carbon blade and shaft construction.
